Livable Communities Conference Set for May
The move to make communities healthier and more livable is growing. Some Michigan communities are doing an excellent job of developing and implementing policies that improve the quality of life in their community, as well their economic health. MTA is among the partners behind the Designing Healthy Livable Communities Conference, set for May 29-30 at the Lansing Center. The conference will span two days, and feature a series of trainings and mobile workshop on the second day. The early-bird registration deadline ends May 5.

Intro to Records Management for Local Governments

Everyday Michigan citizens use the records managed by more than 2,300 units of local government. As the 2005 hurricane season has demonstrated for the residents in the effected area, the loss of local government records creates many challenges. This free 3-hour workshop, presented by the Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries Records Management Services, will provide an introduction and overview of records management responsibilities of local governments.

Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Training
The Michigan Department of Civil Rights, in partnership with the Department of Community Health, Crime Victim Services Commission, is conducting Building Cultural Competence and HateCrime101 training sessions around the state. The Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) invites tribes and small, reservation-area, non-tribal communities to attend a workshop about technology options and management strategies for decentralized wastewater treatment. Together with a team of experts, CTIC offers a workshop about the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of decentralized wastewater treatment options as well as how to manage those systems while considering the local conditions. Scholarships are available to reimburse travel and lodging.
