Uniform Video Services Local Franchise Act Adopted Per the requirements of the Uniform Video Services Local Franchise Act, Public Act 480 of 2006, MCL 484.3301, et seq., the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) developed and adopted a new Uniform Video Service Local Franchise Agreement in early 2007.
The MPSC states that the standardized Uniform Video Service Local Franchise Agreement must be used without procedural or substantive changes by all cable companies, townships, cities and villages in Michigan.
There is still much debate about whether the new law will withstand a legal/constitutional challenge.
The Act states that cable companies had until April 30, 2007, to notify communities that they were replacing their existing franchises with the new standardized agreement.
