This County Administrator reports directly to the Board of Commissioners, whose members are elected officials. As the Chief Administrative Officer for the County, this position provides central management, planning, supervision, and leadership for the County, and recommends management decisions and policy to the Board of Commissioners. This position is also designated as the Controller under State of Michigan law. The position is at-will. The Deputy County Administrator ‐ Internal Services, the Deputy County Administrator ‐ External Services, and the Public Information Officer report directly to this position.
The County Administrator/Controller is responsible for carrying out the policies set forth by the County Board and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the County. The County Administrator is the head of the Administrative Services Department which serves as the principal advisor to the Board and acts as liaison between the Board and other county departments. The County Administrator supervises the actions of all appointed department heads to provide the best possible service to the residents of Kalamazoo County.
The compensation range for the position is $143,145 - $175,635, or negotiable DOQE. The County offers a car allowance and a generous benefit package that is competitive with the market.
