Call to Action on Two Important Legislative Issues
Contact your state legislators to save PEG channel funding
Legislation has been introduced in both the House and Senate to secure financial support for Public, Education and Government (PEG) channels across Michigan by allowing local governments with PEG systems to charge up to 2 percent specifically for these channels. MTA asks that township officials contact their state senator and state representative and ask that they support the two bills securing PEG funding: SB 636 and HB 5047. U.S. Senate to vote Monday on mandatory collective bargaining for locals
The U.S. Senate is expected to vote on Monday, May 12, on HR 980/S. 2123, legislation that would "federalize" state and local employees by placing the federal government in charge of bargaining between employees and employers. The legislation would pre-empt state and local authority to determine whether or not public sector employees, generally, and public safety officers, specifically, should be allowed to organize and collectively bargain. The fiscal impact of mandatory collective bargaining could be significant. Officials are asked to contact U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow and urge them to vote "no" on this legislation.
