Educating Students About Local Government

Isn't it ironic that far more people show up at the polls for federal elections than local elections when you consider that each individual can exert much more policy influence at the township and local level?

The Michigan Townships Association believes that students should understand how much of a difference they can have in affecting local policies.

MTA has been involved with the Michigan Civics Institute (MCI) in an ongoing effort to make a local government curriculum available to Michigan teachers. It is crucial that township officials inform their area teachers of the curriculum, and where it can be accessed so it can be used as a resource in the classroom.
