Debra strategically plans and leads MTA’s communication and education efforts to support the mission of the Association in a manner that effectively utilizes staff and other resources. She has budget and financial oversight for both the Communications Department and Education Center, as well as serving as department liaison for the MTA Board of Directors, Nominating/Credentials Committee, and Conference Committee.
Editor of the Michigan Township News, Debra manages the production of MTA's other communication vehicles, along with publications and the MTA Store. In addition, she directs the Association's educational programming, including workshops, "On the Road" Regional Meetings, the Township Governance Academy, and MTA’s Annual Educational Conference & Expo. Debra also oversees the Association’s public relations, media relations and advertising programs, including the Township Allied Service Provider program.
Before joining the MTA staff in 1999, Debra served as communications director for the Michigan Manufacturers Association and the Michigan Pharmacists Association. She received her B.A. in Communications from the Honors College at Michigan State University and is a graduate of the Institute for Organization Management (IOM) at the University of Notre Dame. She earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential from the American Society of Association Executives & The Center for Association Leadership in Washington, D.C., where she currently serves as a commissioner on the CAE Commission.
