The Michigan Townships Association's Policy Platform represents the resolutions adopted at MTA’s Annual meeting held in conjunction with our Annual Education Educational Conference in January. The 2011 Policy Platform was adopted on Jan. 28, 2011 at the annual meeting. The adopted policy platform serves as the basis for our legislative focus for the calendar year.
The 2012 Proposed Policy Platform that will be considered for adoption by member township officials at our 2012 Annual Meeting on Friday, January 27, 2012, may be previewed here. It is also available in the January/February issue of the Michigan Township News. For those of you attending the Annual Educational Conference, you will be provided with a copy of 2012 Proposed Policy Platform in the Conference's program booklet (please bring it with you to the Annual Meeting).
Under the rules adopted by MTA’s Board of Directors, advance resolutions must be submitted to MTA 150 days prior to the Annual Meeting. These resolutions are reviewed by MTA’s Legislative Policy and Resolutions Committee for word selection and legality, and to ensure they conform with the Association’s overall goals and objectives. Resolutions are printed, prior to the Annual Meeting, in the January/February issue of Michigan Township News and included in the program booklet distributed to each delegate during the Conference registration.
Amendments at the Annual Meeting are permitted, provided the purpose and substance of the original resolution remains unaltered.
Resolutions may also be submitted from the floor at Annual Meeting if they are first submitted to MTA Conference Headquarters not later than 12 p.m. (noon) the day prior to the Annual Meeting. The resolutions must be accompanied by a petition signed by at least 100 delegates. The sponsor must furnish sufficient copies of the resolution to be distributed to all delegates at the meeting.
