141.907 and
141.914a authorize a township to contract with the U.S. Census Bureau to conduct a
special census of its population.
If a special census shows that the township has experienced an increase in population of 10% or more since the last statewide federal census and that increase exceeds the estimated state growth rate, the township will receive a supplemental revenue sharing payment based on the excess increase in population.
Only one special census may be conducted during the 10 years between statewide federal censuses. A special census may only be started at least three years after the enumeration date of the last statewide federal census.
The entire cost of the special census must be paid by the township.
